Boulder soil is notoriously difficult: heavy clay that compacts in summer and turns to concrete in drought, or decomposed granite on the foothills that drains before plants can drink. Getting the soil right is the single most important thing you can do for a garden here.
We amend planting beds with compost, expanded shale, and organic matter to break up clay and improve drainage without destroying the soil structure. Mulching is done with region-appropriate materials — not dyed red bark that bakes in the sun — in depths timed to Boulder's freeze-thaw cycle.
Soil work is available as a standalone service or bundled into a cleanup or installation project.
